Sannyas Initiation,
October 19, 1979, Pune India

This is your new name, Ma Anand Divyo

Anand means Bliss, Divyo means Divine

Happiness is human, bliss is divine.

Happiness is momentary and is always followed by unhappiness; one cannot remain happy forever. It is only a gap between two unhappinesses, just a momentary rest; it is not of much

value. It keeps people hoping, but all hopes are in vain.

Sooner or later you will be flooded with unhappiness, pain, anguish, again. But "bliss" is eternal.  It comes only once,

then it never goes; then it is simply there, a constant source of joy. There is nothing opposite to bliss.

Bliss is worth achieving. Happiness is sheer wastage of time, energy, opportunity , because the same energy, the same time, can be poured into the direction from where bliss can descend into you.

There are only two types of people in the world: the happiness seekers and the bliss seekers. The happiness seekers are the worldly people; the bliss seekers are the other- worldly people, the truly religious people.

Their search is for the eternal. They are not satisfied with the momentary. They are intelligent enough not to be deceived

by the momentary. They are aware and alert, they will not settle for anything less than the eternal, and if you don't

settle for anything else, sooner or later you are bound to find the eternal because it is within everbody's grasp, but we remain occupied with happiness and we go on missing the opportunity of getting to the real, to the eternal.

The definition of the real: that which is eternal. The definition of the unreal: that which is momentary.

The unreal exists in time and the real exists beyond time.

Being a sannyasin means becoming a seeker of the "divine" for the "eternal" for the "timeless" for the "deathless".
